From The Archive: 1970s Admiral Varsity Jacket
We delved into the extensive Admiral Sportswear archive and uncovered an original 1970s varsity jacket which inspired the new Admiral Lincoln Varsity Jacket.
For the Autumn/Winter 2024 collection, we immersed ourselves in Admiral Sportswear's rich heritage, combing through decades of iconic designs that have shaped sports fashion for over a century. One standout piece from the archive was an original 1970s varsity jacket. The jacket has distinctive features such was the chenille 'O' lettering to the left chest and subtle embroidery to the front pocket, as well as more traditional elements such as the material and colours which separate the sleeves from the main body of the garment. When we saw it we knew it had to become a cornerstone of our inspiration for the AW24 collection.
The result of this inspiration is the new Lincoln Varsity jacket, a modern reimagining that stays true to its vintage roots while incorporating contemporary craftsmanship and fabrics. We'd like to think this jacket will become a timeless staple for the brand, one that, 50 years from now, will continue to inspire future designers, just as today’s designs are shaped by our rich history and garment archive.
