Admiral x New York Cosmos: Celebrating 50 Years Since The Birth Of The Original Galácticos
When Pele signed for the New York Cosmos in 1975, he didn’t just join a football team; he transformed a city and a league. Overnight, The Cosmos became a global phenomenon. Madison Avenue met the Maracana as the world’s greatest player brought the beautiful game to America’s biggest stage. From sold-out crowds at Giants Stadium to celebrity-filled locker rooms, Pele and the Cosmos became the original Galacticos, a team that turned football into pop culture.
Now, fifty years on, Admiral Sports and the New York Cosmos reunite for their second capsule collection to celebrate that era of glamour, innovation, and global fame with a new retro capsule collection. The range reimagines the club’s iconic late-1970s look, a homage to the moment the world’s greatest player’s magic lit up New York and changed football in the US forever.
The campaign for the new collection builds on the story introduced in our first collaboration, celebrating the New York Cosmos as a defining force in American soccer during the 1970s and reflecting the club’s modern ambition to reclaim its place as a global football name. The styling draws inspiration from the historic partnership between Admiral and Ralph Lauren, who helped shape the Cosmos’ distinctive look during the late 1970s.
The campaign was shot on Randalls Island in Manhattan, the site of Pelé’s Cosmos debut in 1975 and a landmark in the club’s history.
At the centre of the capsule is a modern interpretation of the classic 1975 away jersey featuring the iconic number 10. The range also includes training and heritage fan shirts, a graphic tee, and a retro-inspired tracksuit in the club’s renowned green and yellow colours.
During the club’s golden era, the Cosmos boasted a lineup of legends including Pele, Franz Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto, and Giorgio Chinaglia, drawing fans from across the world and celebrities from across New York.
